LIGHT TO THOSE IN DARKNESS

HELP FOR PRISONERS

Among other activities, the CBA attempts to bring some help to prisoners. This help takes the form of providing the New American Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to prisoners who request one or the other or both. We also provide them with other books, of the sort that are useful for instruction in the faith, the formation of good character and religious outlook, etc., to the extent that such books are available to us.

If you would like to share in this work, you are invited to contribute books of the sort that would be helpful; NOT terribly outdated books, but only those that are still useful. Remember that in some cases fairly simple books would be wanted, in other cases we are dealing with people who are highly intelligent and well educated, often people making a real effort to learn about the Bible--including the attempt to learn to read the New Testament in Greek, etc. While the CBA buys the Bibles and catechisms we send, it would be difficult to keep up with all the requests by purchasing books.

At present we have requests for Bible dictionaries, concordances and study Bibles, as well as for copies of the Septuagint and Greek lexicons. Do you have any you no longer need?

Some other books specifically requested are:
The Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours
Karl Adam, The Son of God
Henry Copleston, A History of Philosophy, Vol. II
Daily Roman Missal
Henri Daniel-Rops, The Church of the Apostles and Martyrs

If you do send books here, please (since books come here for many purposes) mark the package LIGHT IN DARKNESS, along with the full address: Catholic Biblical Association, 433 Caldwell Hall, Catholic University, Washington, DC 20064.

If you would like to write to a prisoner (one lifer wrote to me: "I know how hard it is for someone to know how excited we get when someone from outside takes time to acknowledge that we are still human beings"), names and addresses can be supplied.
